Women's Soccer Falls To St. Francis (Pa.) In A High-Scoring Affair

The visiting Red Flash of St. Francis (Pa.) University scored two goals in each half to pick up a high-scoring 4-2 Northeast Conference win over the host Central Connecticut State University Blue Devils on Thursday evening in New Britain.  With the loss, the CCSU women are now an even 4-4-0 in NEC play and are 4-10-1 overall.  The Red Flash move to 3-4-1 in conference play and are 5-8-3 overall.

KEY MOMENTS

• Alyssa Mella of St. Francis (Pa.) had the match's first shot that was stopped by CCSU's Taylor DeFlorio in the seventh minute.
• The Blue Devils came right back to fire two shots on goal one by Daniela De Souza and another by Riley Powers in the next 1:30 that were both saved by Emma Sawich of the Red Flash.
• Tomke Dziesiaty put the visitors up 1-0 in the 22nd minute when she intercepted a Central pass and walked in a fired a shot to the upper left corner of the net.
• CCSU's Stella Orellana tied things up at 1-1 at the 21:43 of play when she finished a pass from Riley Powers for her second goal of 2024.
• Alyssa Mella put the visitors up 2-1 with just over five minutes to play in the first half off an assist from Riley Cerqua.
• The hosts outshot the visitors 8-6 in the first half, and the Red Flash held a 5-2 edge in corners in the first 45 minutes.
• The Red Flash would extend their lead to 4-1 on goals by Mella (her second of the match) and Raine Korpics with the first 16:41 of the second half.
• Abbie Burgess netted her third goal of the season for the Blue Devils off an assist from Rachel Wygant with just over eight minutes to play to make the final score, 4-2, in favor of the Red Flash.
