Turley, Cafferky Named First Team All-New England
Junior Nicki Turley and sophomore Jennifer Cafferky of the CCSU women's soccer team were named First Team All-New England by the NEWISA.
Junior Nicki Turley and sophomore Jennifer Cafferky of the Central Connecticut women's soccer team were named to the NEWISA All-New England First Team, it was announced in a release by the New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association last Friday. The defensive duo, who both picked up NEC major awards over the past two seasons, add the honors to their respective growing collections.
Turley, a 5-10 goalkeeper from Henrietta, NY, is the two-time defending Goalkeeper of the Year in the Northeast Conference after earning the award again this past fall and now adds an All-New England First Team nod to her reign in net for the Blue Devils. She became the first goalkeeper in Blue Devil history to earn the NEC Goalkeeper of the Year honor in back-to-back seasons and joins Nikola Deiter as the only other Blue Devil to ever win the award.
Turley led the NEC in goals against average this season at 0.95, allowing just 13 goals over 1228:41 minutes of action between the pipes. She also bested the league in save percentage at a .845 clip. The junior stopper totaled 71 saves in 13 games played and posted four shutouts and was also tabbed NEC Defensive Player of the Week three times during the 2015 campaign.
Cafferky, who was the first player in NEC history to earn NEC Defensive Player of the Year and NEC Rookie of the Year honors in 2014, preserved her Defensive Player of the Year title in 2015 anchoring the back four of a Blue Devils' defense that was tops in the league all season. She now adds the All-New England First Team selection to her resume after also most recently being tabbed to the All-ECAC Second Team just last week.
Central's defense finished the season leading the NEC in goals allowed, only surrendering 15 over 17 games, and also held a significant advantage over the rest of the league in goals against average, posting a mark of 0.82 in 1653:41 minutes of play. The 5-10 center-back from Boras, Sweden also chipped in offensively collecting four points with a pair of goals on the year.
