The Central Connecticut women's soccer team was recently honored with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award for the 2014-15 season, a feat that the Blue Devils have now accomplished for 14 consecutive seasons under head coach Mick D'Arcy. Additionally, the Blue Devils team cumulative grade point average of 3.54 over the previous academic year ranks them first out of all the Division I women's soccer programs in the New England region.
OFFICIAL NSCAA RELEASE
"I'm so proud of our women and the effort they put in to achieve such a high collective GPA. To be ranked #1 amongst all Division 1 schools in New England is an incredible accolade. I'd like to publicly thank Kevin Oliva and all of his wonderful staff in the Academic Center for Student Athletes for their excellent support", said head coach Mick D'Arcy.
The NSCAA annually recognizes college and high school soccer programs that have excelled in the classroom, in addition to their work on the field. A total of 905 soccer teams (319 men, 587 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the NSCAA College Team Academic Award for the 2014-15 academic year.
Of that total, 229 schools had both their men's and women's programs recognized, including CCSU. The Central men's squad maintained a 3.20.
The CCSU women's soccer team was among six squads honored from the Northeast Conference, joining Bryant, LIU Brooklyn, Mount St. Mary's, Saint Francis U and Wagner on the prestigious list.
The Blue Devils will next play at Bryant this Friday at 3 p.m. before returning to New Britain for their final home match of the season on Sunday, Nov. 1 against Wagner. The match will be senior day on the CCSU Soccer Field and kickoff is slated for 11 a.m.
