Lancor Earns NEC Player Of The Week Honors
Senior forward Delaney Lancor scored three goals and assisted on two more to earn NEC Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career on Monday afternoon.
Senior forward Delaney Lancor exploded for three goals and assisted on two more this past week, fueling the Blue Devils to a 2-0-1 record over three games and was named the Northeast Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week for her outstanding effort, it was announced by the NEC front office on Monday afternoon. The award is the first for Lancor in her career.
Spearheading Central's 2-0-1 showing last week, Lancor found the back of the net three times and dished out two assists. She provided all of the scoring, netting two goals, as CCSU closed out the non-conference portion of its schedule by blanking Yale, 2-0, last Monday night. She set the tone early against the Ivy League member, beating the goalkeeper twice during the game's first seven minutes of play.
On Friday, the 5-1 senior dealt out a pair of assists as the Blue Devils posted a crucial 2-0 win over Northeast Conference opponent Robert Morris at home. Lancor's third and final goal of the week came in a 1-1 draw with Saint Francis U on Sunday. She opened the game's scoring in the seventh minute by collecting and burying a rebound into a wide open net.
The Attleboro, MA native leads the Central attack this season in goals with six, a mark that also ranks fifth overall in the NEC.
Lancor and the rest of the Central Connecticut women's soccer team will return to action this Friday as they travel to Bryant for another crucial NEC matchup. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m. in Smithfield, RI and all of the action can be viewed live, for free, on NECFrontRow.com.
