Women's Soccer Ties Massachusetts, 1-1
Blue Devils play Hofstra on Sunday.
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team settled for a 1-1 draw with Massachusetts at the Yale Tournament in New Haven, CT on Friday night. The Blue Devils move to 2-0-1 on the season, while UMass goes to 0-2-1.
The Blue Devils opened the scoring in the 28th minute when senior Claire Walsh sent a corner kick and found sophomore Jennifer Cafferky who buried a shot for her second goal of the season.
UMass tied the contest just before halftime when Gabriela Kenyon headed home a shot at 41:40 to make it 1-1. Laura Johns sent a cross in to Danielle Farano who headed it to Kenyon.
In a well-played back-and-forth contest, the Blue Devils nearly got the game-winner in overtime. Walsh got in behind the UMass keeper but her shot was cleared away by Georgia Gibson to keep the game knotted.
The teams were even in shots, 6-6. Freshman Ashley Cavanaugh made five saves for the Blue Devils, while Cassidy Babin had five for Massachusetts.
Central returns to action on Sunday at noon with a contest against Hofstra at the Yale Tournament in New Haven, CT.
