Last Minute Goal Sinks Women's Soccer At FDU Sunday
FDU's Kristina Neri scored with 37 seconds left in double overtime to lift the Knights to victory over the Blue Devils on Sunday afternoon in Teaneck, NJ.
With 37 seconds left before the final horn sounded in the second overtime on Sunday in Teaneck, NJ, Fairleigh Dickinson's Kristina Neri found the back of the net to lift the Knights to victory, 1-0, over the Central Connecticut women's soccer team. The loss drops the Blue Devils to 5-3-3 overall on season and 1-1-1 in NEC play. The Knights improve to 9-5 overall and 3-0 in the league with the win.
Neri, a sophomore for FDU, made a run down the right side of the field with time expiring and played a ball to freshman Elma Kolenovic who passed it right back to Neri on the continuing run. Neri's ensuing shot then beat CCSU junior goalkeepr Nicki Turley to the far post to give the Knights the dramatic victory. The marker was the first of the season for Neri.
The Knights held a commanding advantage in shots in the match, 20-7, including a 9-2 advantage in shots on goal. Patricia Seitz led FDU's offensive attack with four shots while putting a pair on frame. FDU also held a sleight 8-4 advatage in corner kicks.
Turley finished with eight saves in the match, including two in the overtime periods, but was dealt the loss and drops her record to 4-3-2 on the year.
FDU's Felicia Burr picked up the win in goal for the Knights and made a pair of saves. She improves to 9-5 with the victory.
Sophomores Brianna Scaldaferri and Laura Casanovas Diaz were the lone Blue Devils to record a shot on goal in the setback, logging one apiece.
The Blue Devils have now gone their past two matches without being able to find the back of the net since exploading for five goals in their NEC opener last Sunday against LIU Brooklyn.
The Blue Devils will look to rebound, however, as they travel to intrastate foe Sacred Heart next Friday night. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. on Campus Field in Fairfield, CT and all of the action can be seen live, for free, on NECFrontRow.com.
