Women's Soccer Tops Siena 1-0 On Sunday
Freshman Danielle Pearse recorded her first collegiate goal to loft the Blue Devils to a 1-0 victory on Sunday over Siena on the road.
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team improved to 3-1-2 overall on the season with a 1-0 victory on the road over the Siena Saints on Sunday afternoon in Loudonville, NY. Freshman Danielle Pearse netted her first collegiate goal to lift the Blue Devils to victory, finding the back of the net in the 31st minute. CCSU also snapped Siena's four game winning streak with the win and the Saints now fall to 4-2-2 overall on the year with the loss.
Pearse converted at the 30:17 mark in the first half, deflecting a pass from junior Brianne Casey that was sent from the left wing across the goal line and passed the Siena keeper. The freshman's first collegiate mark proved to be the game-winner for the Blue Devils and the assist from Casey is already her third on the year in just six games.
Junior goalkeeper Nicki Turley followed up a dominant 10-save night on Friday with a three-save shutout to earn the victory on Sunday against the Saints. The shutout is the second for Turley this season as she improves her record to 3-1-1 between the pipes.
The Blue Devils held a 14-8 advantage in shots in the game, including a 9-2 advantage in shots in the first stanza. They also held a commanding 10-4 advantage in corner kicks in the match.
Senior Claire Walsh and freshman Emma Hubbard also significantly contributed for Central on the offensive end. Walsh led the game with four total shots, while Hubbard mustered three shots, including putting a pair on frame.
Siena's Liz Rogan was dealt the loss in goal, surrendering the lone goal, while making a pair of saves. Her record falls to 4-2-2 on the year.
The Blue Devils will return to the pitch next Friday night with an intrastate matchup with the Connecticut Huskies at home on the CCSU Soccer Field. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
