Blue Devils Fall 6-5 on the Road at Sacred Heart
Hughes leads the Blue Devils with two goals in road loss
The Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team dropped its second straight one-goal game, falling 6-5 on the road at Sacred Heart on Sunday afternoon. Junior Madison Hughes led the Blue Devils offensively with a pair of goals in the loss. Central is now 3-9 overall and 0-3 in Northeast Conference play.
The Pioneers improve to 5-7 overall and 1-2 in the league with the victory. Central senior Morgan Tullar made eight saves in net for the Blue Devils in the loss.
Central led 3-2 at the half as Hughes, sophomore Alexandra Hooker and junior Elyse Malecki all scored to give the Blue Devils the one goal lead. They trailed 2-0 before scoring the last three goals of the half.
Sacred Heart, however, opened the second half by scoring the first three goals and taking a 5-3 lead with 13:55 left in the game. Hughes scored her second goal of the game to cut the lead to 5-4 with under 10 minutes to play.
The Pioneers answered again, as Kylie Calandra scored her first goal of the game to push the Sacred Heart lead to 6-4.
Sophomore Marissa Soto cut the lead in the half with her only goal of the game, making it 6-5 with 3:20 on the clock.
Hughes led the offense with two goals, while Hooker added a goal and an assist. Tullar led the defense with her eight saves. Hughes added three ground balls and three draw controls, while Malecki had two of each in the loss.
The Blue Devils are back in action on Friday when they travel to St. Francis U on then on Sunday on the road at Robert Morris.
