Vermont Tops CCSU 15-11 in Women's Lax
Blue Devils return home to host Quinnipiac on Wednesday
The Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team dropped to 2-6 overall with a 15-11 road loss on Saturday at the University of Vermont. Central trailed 13-3 in the game and made a solid second half comeback but could get no closer than three goals in the final minutes.
Vermont is now 7-3 overall on the year.
The two teams traded goals over the first 15 minutes of the first half and the game was tied 3-3. Junior Madison Hughes, freshman Kylie Sullivan and sophomore Erin Dougherty each scored for the Blue Devils in the first 15 minutes.
Vermont would answer and score the final five goals vefore halftime, and then the first five goals after the half to build a 13-3 lead with 16:12 left in the second half.
Central responded, and could score right of the game's next nine goals, to cut the Vermont lead to 14-11 with 2:43 left in the game. Hughes scored three goals during the stretch for Central, while Sullivan added two more as did sophomore Marissa Soto. Junior Elyse Malecki also scored for the Blue Devils as they climbed to within three goals of the home team.
Central, however, would not score again in the final minutes, as the Catamounts added one final goal with 1:45 left in the game to push the lead to 15-11.
Hughes led the Blue Devils offense with four goals, followed by Sullivan with three and Soto with a pair. Malecki and Dougherty each scored once, while Dougherty added an assist in the game.
Senior goalkeeper Morgan Tullar made five saves in net for the Blue Devils, and is now 2-6 on the season. Soto and junior Falynn McCartney each added four draw controls for the Blue Devils.
The Blue Devils return to action on Wednesday at home hosting Quinnipiac at 4 p.m. on Arute Field.
