Women's Lax Drops Opener at Jacksonville
Blue Devils return to action next Saturday at Iona
The Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team dropped its 2015 season opener on the road at Jacksonville, 22-4, to fall to 0-1 on the season. Sophomore Erin Dougherty led the Blue Devils with a pair of goals in the loss. Jacksonville is now 1-1 on the season.
Senior Morgan Tullar made three saves in net for the Blue Devils, who will play on the road at Iona on Feb. 21 before getting ready for their first two home games of the season. Central will host Siena at 4 p.m. on Feb. 27 followed by a home game vs. Brown at 12 p.m. on March 1.
On Saturday Jacksonville scored the first 15 goals of the game to take a 15-0 lead at halftime. The Blue Devils opened the second half by scoring two straight and four of the first six goals of the half.
Dougherty scored her first goal of the game, and the season, 47 seconds into the half. Sophomore Marissa Soto made it two straight for the Blue Devils just over a minute later. Following a Jacksonville goal Dougherty scored her second goal of the game. Junior Elyse Malecki scored the fourth goal of the half at 8:54 for the Blue Devils.
The two goals for Dougherty matches her output from her freshman season with the Blue Devils. It is also her first multi-goal game of her career. As a freshman she had a pair of goals in 11 games played.
The Blue Devils return to action next Saturday on the road at Iona. Their home opener is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 27 at 4 p.m. on Arute Field.
