Women's Lax Stops Quinnipiac, 13-9
Three Blue Devils score hat tricks in home victory
Three Blue Devils scored hat tricks as the Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team topped Quinnipiac 13-9 at home on Wednesday afternoon. The Blue Devils trailed 8-6 and scored seven of the final eight goals of the game to come away with the victory. The Blue Devils are now 3-6 overall on the season. Quinnipiac is 1-8.
Freshman Kylie Sullivan had three goals and an assist, as did junior Madison Hughes as the Blue Devils scored the game's final five goals to come away with the victory. Junior Falynn McCartney also added three goals and an assist as Central posted a season-high 13 goals on Wednesday.
The Blue Devils trailed 5-3 at the half and tied the game 6-6 on the second goal of the game from Hughes with 22:21 left in the second half. Quinnipiac answered with two quick scores, taking an 8-6 lead with 20:03 left to play.
Sophomore Alexandra Hooker scored her lone goal of the game to cut the lead to 8-7, and McCartney scored just under three minutes later to tie the game 8-8.
Quinnipiac would answer again, taking a 9-8 lead on the third goal of the game from Kathleen DeVito, but the Blue Devils would hold the Bobcats scoreless over the final 12:19 to claim the victory.
Trailing 9-8, senior Brigit Hogan scored her second goal of the game, on a free position shot, to tie the game 9-9.
Hughes, McCartney and Sullivan would then score three times in less than three minutes to boost the Blue Devil lead to 12-9. Sophomore Marissa Soto completed the scoring with her only goal of the game with 3:56 left in the second half.
Senior Morgan Tullar picked up her third win of the season in goal for the Blue Devils, making five saves in the 13-9 victory.
The Blue Devils are off until April 3 when they begin Northeast Conference play on the road at Bryant on Apr. 3 at 7 p.m.
