Bryant Tops Women's Lacrosse, 12-8
Hooker scores four goals and Tullar makes nine saves for Blue Devils.
The Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team fell at Bryant, 12-8, on Friday in the Northeast Conference opener for both schools. The Blue Devils trailed by one goal early in the second half, but were unable to get closer to the Bulldogs.
The loss dropped Central to 3-7 overall and 0-1 in the NEC. Bryant improved to 7-3 overall and 1-0 in the NEC.
Bryant took an early lead with two goals in the opening two minutes before sophomore Alexandra Hooker took a pass from Marissa Soto to make it 2-1 with 22:21 to play in the period.
The Bulldogs answered with three straight goals in a span of 4:44 to build a 5-1 cushion. The Blue Devils came back with three unanswered goals of their own. Junior Madison Hughes scored off a feed from Soto. Hooker followed with an unassisted goal and a free position goal to make it 5-4 with 5:50 left in the opening half.
The teams alternated the final three scores of the period, with Hooker tallying her fourth goal of the half to account for the CCSU score. Bryant took a 7-5 lead into the intermission.
CCSU opened the scoring just under three minutes into the second half when Hughes scored to make it 7-6. Bryant responded with three straight goals to build a four-goal cushion before sophomore Erin Dougherty converted a free position shot to make it 10-7 with 12:16 to play.
Bryant scored two straight goals before senior Brigit Hogan took a pass from junior Falynn McCartney with 19 seconds to play to account for the final margin.
Hooker led the attack with four goals and Hughes added a pair to lead the attack. Soto added two assists and a team-high three ground balls and three draw controls. Senior Jessica Sudock had two caused turnovers.
Senior Morgan Tullar made nine saves in net for CCSU to go with three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
The Blue Devils are back in action on Friday, April 10, when they host LIU Brooklyn at 7 p.m.
