Women's Golf Finishes Third at Hartford Women's Invitational
Tara Whelan leads all Blue Devils with sixth place finish
Sophomore Tara Whelan shot a second day score of 80 and finished with a two-day score of 158 to finish in sixth place and help lead the Central Connecticut women's golf team to a third place finish at the Hartford Women's Invitational on Sunday. The tournament was played at Tumble Brook Country Club in Bloomfield, CT.
The Blue Devils shot a day two score of 325 and finished with a total of 641, just four shots behind tournament winner Quinnipiac (637). Sacred Heart was second (639), followed by CCSU, Hartford (653), Fairfield (665), St. Francis Brooklyn (708), Holy Ross (737) and LIU Brooklyn (740).
Whelan's 80 on Sunday followed her 78 on Saturday and gave her a sixth place finish. Senior Sarah Boden (82-78) and junior Ella Williams (77-83) each shot 160 and tied for ninth place overall. Sophomore Cecy Gutierrez and junior Kaitlyn Stoddart each shot 165 and tied for 16th place. Gutierrez shot 80-85, and Stoddart shot 81-84.
The Blue Devils will be back in action on Wednesday, April 13 at the Monmouth Quad Match at Navesink Country Club in Middletown, NJ.
