Women's Golf Climbs to Third at Sacred Heart Women's Invitational
Ella Williams finishes second after second round 74
Junior Ella Williams led all CCSU golfers on Sunday with a second round score of 74 as the Central Connecticut women's golf team finished in a tie for third place overall at the Sacred Heart Women's Invitational on Sunday. The two-day, 36-hole tournament was played at Great River Golf Club in Milford, CT.
The Blue Devils posted the second best team score of the day shooting a total of 319, 13 strokes better than their day one score of 332, to finish with a score of 651 and tie for third place with Wagner. Sacred Heart (619) finished first, followed by Hartford (650), CCSU and Wagner (651), Siena (656) and Fairfield (675) in the six team field.
Williams shot a team low score of 74 on Sunday, the second-best round of the day by any golfer, to finish with a two-day score of 153 and finish in second place overall, just two shots back of the tournament leader. Her 74 matched the second-best round of the entire weekend.
Senior Sarah Boden fired a day two score of 80 and finished at 165, good for 18th place overall. Sophomore Cecy Gutierrez improved eight strokes from her Saturday score and shot 79 on Sunday, finishing at 166 in a tie for 16th place.
Junior Kaitlyn Stoddart shot 86 on Sunday and sophomore Tara Whelan shot 88. Stoddart was in 21st place (167) and Whalen finished in 28th (176).
The Blue Devils will now travel to Daytona Beach, FL this weekend for the Northeast Conference Championship on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The tournament is being held at the LPGA International Hill Course.
