Women's Golf Tied for Third After Two Rounds at Quinnipiac
Junior Ella Williams is tied for fifth place after shooting 78-75 on Monday
The Central Connecticut women's golf team combined to shoot team scores of 311 and 310 in the first two rounds of the Quinnipiac Classic on Monday at New Haven Country Club in New Haven, CT. Central led the field after the first round and improved one stroke in its second round to shoot 621 on the day, just three shots behind tournament leader Sacred Heart.
All five CCSU golfers are in the top-20 after the first two rounds. The Blue Devils are the only school in the 11-team field to boast all five golfers in the top-20.
Junior Ella Williams led the way on Monday for the Blue Devils firing rounds of 78 and 75 to sit in a tie for fifth place overall at 153. Classmate Kaitlyn Stoddart is tied for 13th place overall after rounds of 77 and 80. Senior Sarah Boden shot an 82 in the first round but rebounded in the second to shoot 76 for a score of 158 and a tie for 16th place.
Sophomore Tara Whelan fired a 76 in the first round to lead all Central golfers, and then shot 83 in the second round for a score of 159. She is tied for 19th place overall, along with classmate Cecy Gutierrez who shot 80-79. All five Blue Devils are in the top 20.
Central's first round team score of 311 topped the 11-team field. They improved one stroke to 310 in the second round. Sacred Heart leads after the first two rounds, shooting 315-303 for a score of 618, and a one stroke lead over Albany (313-307-620). Central is third at 621, tied with Monmouth, and followed by Quinnipiac (632), Hartford (634), Hofstra (641), Delaware State (662), Fairfield (668), Quinnipiac B (674) and St. Francis Brooklyn (740)
