Women's Golf Finishes Fifth at NEC Championships
Blue Devils shoot 315 on day three
The Central Connecticut women's golf team shot a weekend team-best score of 315 on Sunday to finish in fifth place at the 2016 Northeast Conference Women's Golf Championships. The championship was held at the LPGA International Jones Course on Sunday, after spending the first two days on the Hills Course. Sunday's course was a par 73, measuring 6,085 yards.
Central's score of 315 on Sunday gave them a three-day total of 971, just three shots back of fourth place St. Francis U. Fairleigh Dickinson won the team title with a three-day total of 934, one stroke better than Sacred Heart (935). Wagner was third (955), followed by St. Francis U, CCSU, St. Francis Brooklyn (1044) and LIU Brooklyn.
Senior Sarah Boden led the Blue Devils and tie for eighth place overall after shooting a 78 on Sunday to give her a three day score of 237.
Junior Ella Williams shot 81 on Sunday and finished at 243, good for a tie for 15th place overall.
Sophomore Cecy Gutierrez also fired an 81 on Sunday, her best round of the weekend, and finished at 246, good for a tie for 19th place. Junior Kaitlyn Stoddart also shot 246, including a team-best weekend score of 75 in Sunday's round.
Sophomore Tara Whelan shot 85 on Sunday and finished at 260, good for a tie for 28th place overall.
The tournament concludes the 2015-16 season for the women's golf team.
