Women's Golf in Second After Day One at Seahawk Invitational
Cecy Gutierrez lead Blue Devils in first round on Sunday
The Central Connecticut women's golf team sits in second place out of nine teams after the first round of the Seahawk Invitational on Sunday, hosted by Wagner College. The Blue Devils shot a round one score of 323 and sit just four shots behind tournament leader Dartmouth College.
Sophomore Cecy Gutierrez led the Blue Devils with a day one score of 79 and its tied for sixth place overall. Junior Tara Whelan and senior Sarah Boden each shot 80 on Sunday and are tied for eighth place. The Blue Devils were the only team to have three players shoot 80 or below on day one.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Stoddart shot 84 and tied for 21st place. Classmate Ella Williams fired a day one score of 88 and is tied for 30th place overall.
The tournament is being played at Quail Valley Golf Course and is a par-72. Dartmouth shot a team score of 319 to lead the tournament, followed by the Blue Devils just four shots behind. Albany is third (328) followed by Wagner (329) and St. Francis U (335) in fifth place. Niagara (346), St. Francis Brooklyn (347) and LIU Brooklyn (378) round out the field.
The second and final round will begin with a shotgun start at 8:15 on Monday morning.
