Women's Golf in Fourth Place After Day One of NEC Championship on Friday
Second and Third Rounds Take Place This Weekend
The Central Connecticut women's golf team began play in the 2016 Northeast Conference Championship on Friday in Daytona Beach, FL. The tournament is being held at the LPGA International Hills Course. Friday's course measured 6,136 yards and is a par 73.
The Blue Devils shot a team score of 329 in Friday's first round and sit in fourth place in the seven team field. Fairleigh Dickinson (309) leads the field, followed by Sacred Heart (311), Wagner (326), CCSU (329), St. Francis U (330), St. Francis Brooklyn (360) and LIU Brooklyn.
Senior Sarah Boden shot an 81 for the Blue Devils, beginning her round with a 42 on the front nine and 39 on back. She is tied for 11th place overall. She had one birdie, coming on the 16th hole, to finish her last five holes at -1. She was +2 on the back nine.
Junior Kaitlyn Stoddart shot an 82 on the first day, highlighted by a pair of birdies on the front nine (38) and one on the back. She shot 44 in her second nine.
Sophomore Cecy Gutierrez also shot on an 82 on Friday with identical 41's on both the front and the back. He had one birdie on the day, coming on the third hole. Both players are tied for 14th place.
Junior Ella Williams shot 84 after shooting 40 on the front nine and 44 on the back. On the front nine she had seven pars and finished at +4. She is tied for 16th place. Sophomore Tara Whelan shot an 87 in the first round. After shooting 42 on the front nine she finished her round with six straight bogeys to shoot 45 on the back. Whelan is tie for 27th place overall.
The second round of the Championships will take place on Saturday, also at the LPGA International in Daytona Beach.
