Women's Golf Second at Hartford Women's Invitational
Ella Williams shoots 75 on day one
The Central Connecticut women's golf team sits in second place out of eight teams at the Hartford Women's Invitational after the first day of action on Saturday. The tournament is being held at Tumble Brook Country Club in Bloomfield, CT.
The Blue Devils shot 316 on the first day of the event on Saturday, and trail tournament leader Quinnipiac by just one stroke. Sacred Heart is third (319), followed by Hartford (329), Fairfield (333), St. Francis Brooklyn (358), Holy Cross (363) and LIU Brooklyn (364).
Junior Ella Williams shot a five over par score of 77 and sits just two shots back of the tournament leader, in a tie for third place. Sophomore Tara Whelan fired a 78 and is tied for fifth place overall.
Sophomore Cecy Gutierrez fired an 80 (+8) and is tied for ninth place overall. Junior Kaitlyn Stoddart shot 81, and is tied for 12th, and senior Sarah Boden shot 82 and is tied for 15th place.
The Blue Devils are one of just two schools in the field to have all five golfers in the top 15 in the tournament.
The second and final round will begin on Sunday morning.
