Women's Golf Picked Sixth in NEC Preseason Coaches Poll
Blue Devils open the season on April 3 at Wagner
The Central Connecticut women's golf team was picked sixth in the 2016 Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll released on Tuesday. The Blue Devils will open the spring season on Sunday, April 3 at Wagner.
The 2016 NEC Championships will be held at the LPGA International (Hills) in Daytona Beach, FL, beginning on Friday, April 22.
FDU was picked to win the league, followed by St. Francis U, Wagner, Sacred Heart, LIU Brooklyn, CCSU and then St. Francis Brooklyn.
The Blue Devils are coming off a fall in which they had three top-five finishes in their five tournaments. They were fifth at the Dartmouth Invitational, first in a three-team tournament at Sacred Heart and third at the Quinnipiac Classic at the New Haven Country Club.
Sophomore Ella Williams led the charge in the fall with a stroke average of 79.8 and tied for 16th place at the Quinnipiac Classic. Senior Sarah Boden averaged 82 strokes per round and placed in a tie for sixth place at Dartmouth, the best individual finish of the fall for the Blue Devils.
Junior Kaitlyn Stoddart (81.8) and sophomore Cecy Gutierrez (81.9) and junior Tara Whelan (83.1) round out the scorers for the Blue Devils.
