Game One
The Blue Devils dropped game one in the bottom of the seventh inning. Senior Elizabeth Montemurro pitched six scoreless innings, but the Blackbirds tied the game at 1-1 with three singles in the bottom of the seventh inning. Then with two outs Long Island scored the winning run on an error.
Neither team was very successful offensively, as the Blue Devils only run of the game came in the top of the fifth inning. Freshman Arielle Bruno started the inning with a double to left field and then stole third with two outs. She then scored on a wild pitch, giving her team a 1-0 lead.
Bruno led the Blue Devils with a two-for-four performance at the plate. Central recorded five hits in the game with senior Katherine Knowles, junior Sarah Vlahos and freshman Tessa Brown each posting one.
Montemurro was the tough luck loser. She falls to 7-6 on the season, despite allowing only six hits and 1 earned run in six and two-thirds innings of work.
Game Two
Central struck first in game two scoring a pair of runs with a two out rally in the top of the fourth. Freshman Stephanie Chotkevys walked and then scored on an error by the left fielder. Vlahos who reached on the error then scored on a single by Bruno, giving Central the 2-0 lead.
Two runs was all that sophomore Jordan Tingley would need as she dominated the Blackbirds limiting them to only three hits in a complete game shutout. The win bumps Tingley's record to 9-8 on the season. She struck out four and allowed only two walks.
The Blue Devils recorded seven hits in the game, including two by senior junior Rebecca Mussatti. Bruno's single produced Central's only RBI of the game.
The Blue Devils will return to action on Saturday at Monmouth and then at Mount St. Mary's on Sunday for their final NEC doubleheader of the season.
