Softball Drops Season Opener at USF
The Central Connecticut softball team opened their season on Thursday night at the University of South Florida. The Blue Devils fell to the Bulls by a score of 8-0 to open their season, it was the first game played at USF's new softball facility. Central falls to 0-1 with the loss, but they continue play at the USF Fairfield Suites Tournament tomorrow.

After going down one-two-three in the top of the first the Blue Devils surrendered the first run of the season to the Bulls in the bottom of the first. The Bulls used a walk and a pair of hits to manufacture the run against Blue Devil starter senior Elizabeth Montemurro.
Central went down in order again in the top of the second. In the bottom half of the inning the Bulls put up six runs against the Blue Devils. The Bulls scored six runs off six hits and three walks in the inning. Freshman Julie Marks relieved Montemurro and picked up the final out of the inning.
Marks held the Bulls offense to one run in the final two innings. She allowed only four hits and struck out a pair of Bulls.
The Blue Devils finally broke through against the Bulls getting their first hit of the season with a single in the top of the fourth inning. Senior transfer Amanda Dilworth got the Blue Devil hit with a single down the right field line.
Montemurro (0-1) took the loss for the Blue Devils and Lindsey Richardson got the win for the Bulls. The game was halted after four and a half innings because of the collegiate mercy rule.
Central returns to action tomorrow afternoon against #5 Alabama, first pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
