Central Connecticut senior pitcher Elizabeth Montemurro was named Akadema/Northeast Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week on Monday afternoon. The senior right hander dominated her competition last week earning the win in three of the Blue Devils four victories. She pitched a complete game in each of her three wins.
Montemurro hurled three complete-game victories this week, including both of Central's conference victories over Sacred Heart and Robert Morris. She totaled 21 innings pitched, but allowed only three runs and 13 hits. Even more impressive, Montemurro did not walk a batter over that stretch and struck out more hitters (15) than she allowed hits (13).
The highlight of her week was a 2-0, shutout victory over Sacred Heart. After her team dropped the opening game to the Pioneers Montemurro toed the rubber and made sure that her team left the field with a split against their instate rivals.
She currently sports a team best 2.29 ERA for the season, including the 1.00 she maintained this past week. Thanks in large part to Montemurro's performance; the Blue Devils remain squarely in the hunt for their first berth in the Northeast Conference tournament.
Montemurro and the Blue Devils return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Rhode Island for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
