Dave Sanko won the homerun derby this year, as defending champion Alan Burr was unable to compete. Sanko is a carpenter at CCSU and represented the Maintenance Department at the event, while Burr is the assistant strength and condition coach at Central.
The Blue Devils fell to the Faculty/Staff by a score of 9-5 in the game. The Faculty/Staff had representatives from several departments across the CCSU campus. Participants on the team included Student-Athlete Academic Center Director Kevin Oliva and CCSU women's basketball Coach Beryl Piper. Piper was a member of the softball and basketball teams during her time as a student-athlete at Central.
Coach Jeff Franquet was very excited about the day's events, "I am so proud of our team for supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and tying that in with a wonderful faculty and staff softball game. We had a great game, and it was terrific to see all of the faculty and staff playing the game. We had a wonderful turnout, and I'm sure all the faculty and staff are looking forward to next year."
