Softball Tops Western Michigan for First Win of the Season
The Central Connecticut softball team defeated Western Michigan 2-1 on Saturday morning at the USF Fairfield Suites Tournament. The Blue Devils improve to 1-2 on the season with the victory. Sophomore Kelsey Barlow drove in both Blue Devil runs in the game.

Pitching and defense dominated the first three innings before both teams got on the board in the fourth.
Central scored both of their runs in the top of the fourth. Junior Rebecca Mussatti led off the inning with a walk and freshman Stephanie Chotkevys followed two batters later with another walk. With runners on first and second Barlow drilled a 2-2 pitch deep to center driving in both runners for the Blue Devils.
The Broncos answered with an unearned run in the bottom half of the inning. The leadoff hitter who had reached on an error was driven home on a single to right field, but freshman Julie Marks shut down the Western Michigan offense preventing a big inning.
Marks held the Broncos scoreless the rest of the game earning a complete game victory in her first collegiate start. The Blue Devil freshman allowed no earned runs and scattered six hits over seven innings in improving to 1-0 on the season. She walked only two batters and struck out one.
Barlow has now driven in all three of the Blue Devils runs this season she is three for seven so far on the season with those three rbis.
The Blue Devils return to action this afternoon against Temple, first pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
