Liz Montemurro Named Akadema/NEC Co-Pitcher of the Week
Senior Elizabeth Montemurro has been named Akadema/Northeast Conference Softball Co-Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season. Montemurro had a dominating week as the Blue Devils qualified for their first Northeast Conference Tournament. During the week she became the Blue Devils all-time leader in victories.
Senior Elizabeth Montemurro has been named Akadema/Northeast Conference Softball Co-Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season. Montemurro had a dominating week as the Blue Devils qualified for their first Northeast Conference Tournament. During the week she became the Blue Devils all-time leader in victories.
Montemurro pitched in each of the Blue Devils four non-conference games, earning two wins and two saves. She did not allow a run in 16 innings pitched, including two complete games, and only allowed 12 hits and one walk. The senior went 15.1 innings without allowing a walk to start the week, notching a save and a win against Holy Cross.
With her shutout victory on Tuesday against Holy Cross, she became CCSU's all-time leader in victories with 35. She extended her record to 36 with a win on Thursday versus Seton Hall and now will have the chance to extend it further at the NEC Tournament.
Montemurro has four shutouts on the season with two of those coming in her victories this week. In both games she scattered six hits and did not walk a batter.
After her great week she is now 13-7 on the season with a 2.46 ERA, she has struck out 66 batters and walked only 17 over 119.1 innings.
She was previously, named NEC Pitcher of the Week on April 11th. That week she hurled three complete game victories while allowing only three runs and not walking a batter.
The Blue Devils travel to Moon Township, PA, this week to take part in their first Northeast Conference Championship.
