Alex Lindgren Named NEC Rookie of the Week
Won one event and placed second in two on Saturday
Central Connecticut freshman Alex Lindgren was named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week on Tuesday. The Blue Devils split a tri-meet on the road with Sacred Heart and Post University.
Lindgren swam in her first collegiate tri-meet with LIU Post and NEC rival Sacred Heart, winning the 200 breaststroke while taking second in both the 100 breaststroke and 200 IM. She outpaced all swimmers in the 200 breast with a 2:27.08 time that tops the NEC thus far in 2018-19. The Northbridge, MA product touched the wall at 2:13.43 in the 200 IM, good for a top-five time in the Conference.
Teammate Valentina Gomez was named a Prime Performer for the week, also on Tuesday. She opened up the new season going three-for-three with individual wins in the 1,000 free, 100 fly and 200 fly. Her 200 fly time of 2:07.99 is the best so far in that event among NEC swimmers.
The Blue Devils are back in action on Friday at UConn, along with Southern Connecticut State University.
