Gomez, Lindgren Earn NEC Swimming Weekly Awards
The Blue Devils will swim against Bryant and Wagner on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 2-3.
Junior Valentina Gomez and freshman Alex Lindgren were named Northeast Conference Swimmer of the Week and NEC Rookie of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday. CCSU competed in a dual meet against University of New Hampshire last weekend. The Blue Devils will swim against Bryant and Wagner on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 2-3.
Gomez shined in a competitive dual meet with New Hampshire on Saturday, posting three times that rank among the top-3 in the NEC for the 2018-19 campaign. She won the 1,000 freestyle with the second fastest swim in the NEC this season, clocking in at 10:46.41. The Harrisonburg, VA native recorded the Conference's fastest time in the 200 butterfly despite losing the race by just .01 of a second. Gomez's third top-3 time came in the 100 butterfly, touching the wall second in 58.58 behind a UNH swimmer. Overall, the junior already holds four times that stack up among the three-best in the NEC.
Lindgren continued to excel at the breaststroke events in her first collegiate season as a Blue Devil, placing second in the 200 in a dual meet with New Hampshire, posting an NEC top-time of 2:22.16. The swim was over three seconds faster than any other competitor in the Conference this season. She also took third as the fastest CCSU swimmer in the 100 breaststroke with a top-5 time in the NEC at 1:08.19.
