Blue Devils in Second Place After Solid Second Day at NEC Championships
Day Three Begins on Friday at 10 a.m.
The Central Connecticut swimming and diving team climbed to second place after the second day of action in the 2019 Northeast Conference Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday. The Blue Devils have 207 points, and trail just defending champion Bryant in the team standings. Wagner is third, followed by LIU Brooklyn and Saint Francis University rounds out the top five.
The Blue Devils picked up 45 points in the first event of the evening when senior Aidan Devers, junior Valentina Gomez and classmate Erika Maercklein finished fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively in the 500 freestyle. Devers finished in 4:57.62, Gomez in 4:59.51 and Maercklein finished in 5:01.74 for the Blue Devils. Juniors Gracie Regan and Keelin Kendall also scored in the B final for CCSU.
Junior Alexis Fredricks finished seventh in the 200 IM with a time of 2:06.87 to earn 12 more points for the Blue Devils.
The Blue Devils then picked up 50 points in the 50 freestyle. Freshman Jeannette King medaled and placed third in the event with a time of 23.42. Senior Kaitlyn Troy finished sixth in 23.75 and freshman Simona Visinski was eighth in 23.89. Freshman Katie Czulewicz was 10th in 24.11 and classmate Destiny Johnson was 14th in 24.21 to lead the Blue Devils.
Central capped off the evening with a second place finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay. The team of Troy, Johnson, King and Visinski finished in 1:33.84 to claim 34 points in the event.
Day three of the championships begins on Friday at 10 a.m.
