Swimming and Diving Dominates LIU Brooklyn on Senior Day
Blue Devils win 14 of 16 total events
The Central Connecticut swimming and diving team won 14 of 16 events and cruised to a 169-89 victory over LIU Brooklyn on Senior Day on Saturday. The Blue Devils honored two seniors, Aidan Devers and Kaitlyn Troy, and one junior, Valentina Gomez, prior to the dual meet.
The Blue Devils will return to action on Sunday at Rhode Island in their last meet of the season prior to the Northeast Conference Championships on February 13-16.
Central began the day taking first and second place in the 400 medley relay. The team of Troy, freshman Alex Lindgren, Gomez and freshman Katie Czulewicz posted a time of 3:58.75 to earn 11 points. The squad of junior Alexis Fredricks, freshman Mariana Espino, sophomore Katelyn Mann and freshman Simona Visinski placed second with a time of 4:00.72.
Junior Keelin Kendall placed first in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 11:08.75 in the second race of the day.
Junior Erika Maercklein led a 1-2 finish in the 200 yard freestyle, posting a time of 1:55.56. Freshman Jeannette King was second in 1:57.02.
Troy won the 100 backstroke with a time of 58.49. Alexis Fredricks was second in 59.39. Espino won the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:08.00 and Lindgren was second in 1:08.80.
Gomez placed first in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:07.95. Czulewicz was second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.01 while Visinski was third in 25.16.
Junior Lauren Wilcox placed first in the 1 meter diving event for CCSU with a score of 154.60.
King won the 100 yard freestyle in 53.98, followed by Czulewicz in second in 54.32 and junior Grace Fredricks was fourth in 56.22.
Alexis Fredricks won the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:05.78, followed by Devers in second in 2:07.95 and Kendall in fourth in 2:17.69.
Lindgren won the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:27.19, followed by Mann (2:29.81) in second and Espino in fifth in 2:34.13. Maercklein placed first in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:11.60, followed by junior Gracie Regan in second in a time of 5:24.22.
Gomez placed first in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 58.63 and sophomore Erin Brown was fourth in 1:03.14.
Sophomore Reagan Kenney placed first in the 3 meter diving event with a score of 145.90. Alexis Fredricks was second in the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:12.87 and Lindgren was fourth in 2:15.41.
The CCSU team of King, Czulewicz, Troy and Visinski finished first in the 200 yard freestyle relay to cap the victory for the Blue Devils.
