
Softball Falls to LIU in Series Finale
The Central Connecticut softball team suffered a 2-1 loss in the final regular season matchup with The LIU Sharks on Sunday afternoon.
Kaylee Whittaker (7-4) suffered her fourth loss of the season. She went the distance for The Blue Devils and allowed just five hits, one earned run with seven strikeouts in 10 innings. Senior third baseman Paige Stringer tallied a pair of hits including an RBI double.
Lindsey Cowans (9-7) allowed five hits in 10.0 innings pitched and gave up just one run in her ninth win of the season. Dallas Andrews loan hit was an RBI double, and Lily Hinkle plated the game-winning run for The Sharks with a sacrifice fly.

KEY MOMENTS
BOTTOM 1ST: Meg Gorman led the Blue Devils off with a single down the left field line. Paige Stringer doubled off the right field fence and Gorman scored all the way from first to give Central an early 1-0 lead.
TOP 2ND: The Sharks answered after a two-out walk drawn by nine-hole hitter Kaylee Clarkson and a double from Dallas Andrews that plated Clarkson from first and tied the game at one.
TOP 10TH: The International tiebreaker was in effect during the top of the 10th inning. Kaylee Clarkson was placed on second and advanced to third on a pass ball. The next batter grounded out to Whittaker for the first out of the inning. Lily Hinkle hit a fly ball to left deep enough to score Clarkson who tagged up and gave LIU a 2-1 lead. Whittaker retired the next LIU batter and Central trailed 2-1.
BOTTOM 10TH: LIU pitcher Lindsey Cowans retired the two, three, and four batters in the Central lineup to secure the series sweep.
