Softball Drops Two to LIU in Friday Doubleheader
The Central Connecticut softball team suffered a 5-2 loss in game one and a 2-0 loss in game two to The Long Island Sharks on Friday.
Kaylee Whittaker (7-3) suffered her third loss of the season. She went the distance for The Blue Devils and allowed just four hits, four earned runs and fanned five Sharks. Catcher, Brooke Fedison went 2-for-3 for Central at the plate and Paige Stringer had CCSUs loan RBI in game one.
Lindsey Cowans (8-7) allowed six hits in 7.0 innings pitched and gave up just one run in her eighth win of the season. Emma Niece was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Gabby Padilla's hit a two-run homerun that helped The Sharks prevail in game one.
Adrianna Green (1-2) went the distance for The Blue Devils in game two. The freshman hurler gave up five hits and allowed two in the game two loss. The Blue Devils only hit was from junior first baseman Grace Lawton.

TOP 1ST: The Sharks scored two runs, one earned on one hit and one error.
BOTTOM 1ST: Paige Stringer singled up the middle to score senior Meg Gorman and cut the LIU lead to 2-1.
TOP 2ND: The Sharks scored three runs in the second inning. Lily Hinkle reached on a fielder's choice to score Kaylee Clarkson and Gabby Padilla cleaned things up with a two-out two-run homerun.
BOTTOM 4th: Leadoff hitter Lexi Hastings brought home Haley Coupal with a bases-loaded sac fly for The Huskies and gave them a 4-0 lead. Grace Jenkins followed with a two-run double as UConn took a commanding 6-0 lead.
BOTTOM 6TH: Skyler Warn singled to move Grace Lawton into scoring position with two outs. Brooke Fedison singled to load the bases and pinch runner Emma Henry scored on a wild pitch.
