Green, Pearson to be Inducted Into CSHF
Pair of Blue Devils Among Eight Honorees on April 5, 2014
Longtime Central Connecticut men's soccer coach Shaun Green and former Blue Devil Ken Pearson are among eight honorees being inducted into the Connecticut Soccer Hall of Fame on April 5, 2014. The Class of 2014 will join the 121 members inducted since the CSHF was founded in 1999.
The event take place on Saturday night, April 5th at the Sheraton Hartford South Hotel in Rocky Hill and is open to the public. Tickets for this event are $50 per person and $25 for youth 12 and under. Information regarding Induction Dinner tickets can be obtained by calling CSHF at (860) 306-6822.
Green recently completed his 29th year with the Blue Devils and led his team to the 2013 Northeast Conference regular season title. He is a three-time NEC Coach of the Year (2003, 2011, 2013). During his tenure the Blue Devils won the Mid-Continent Conference in 1994 and 1995 and claimed NEC regular season or tournament championships in 1998, 2007, 2011, and 2013.
In 2007 Central earned an NCAA Tournament appearance and advanced to the NCAA's Sweet-16. Green has also served as a Connecticut Olympic Development Program coach and a state Director of Coaching for the NSCAA. He is formerly the chair of the NEC Coaches Committee and Regional Ranking Committee. Green is the founder and president of the International Coaches Association (ICA).
Pearson has been a standout player in Connecticut at all levels for the past 40 years. He played soccer at Torrington High School from 1976-78, scored 30 goals in 15 games as a senior and was their first All-State player in 1978. At CCSU (1979-83) Pearson is the career scoring leader with 67 goals and 24 assists. He was a three-time All-New England (1981, 1982 and 1983) and 2-time All American (1981 and 1983). Pearson earned the Frederick M. Gladstone Award as the top senior athlete at CCSU and was inducted into the CCSU Alumni Athletics Hall of Fame in 1995.
Success followed Pearson as he was a dominant striker for the Hartford Portuguese (CT Soccer League Champion & State Cup winner), New Britain Polonia-Falcons (CT Soccer League Champion & State Cup winner), and Ludlow Lusitano (LASA League). He was the top goal scorer in the CSL in 1990 and 1991 with Derby SC. As an over 30 player, his teams have won multiple state and league titles.
