Yale Tops Men's Soccer on Tuesday Night
Blue Devils home again on Friday night vs. St. Francis U
The Central Connecticut men's soccer team dropped to 7-7-1 overall on the season with a 2-0 home loss to Yale on Tuesday night. The loss is just the third in the last 11 games for the Blue Devils. They will return to action in a key Northeast Conference on Friday night hosting St. Francis U beginning at 7 p.m.
The Bulldogs scored their first goal of the match in the first half with just under four minutes to play before the break. Scott Armbrust took a pass from Henry Flugstad-Clarke and his shot attempt deflected of a CCSU defender and past keeper Nick Velleca.
Yale pushed the lead to 2-0 in the second half on the first goal of the season by Keith Bond. Bond took a feed from Pablo Espinola and beat Central keeper Rafal Krauze for the second score of the match.
Velleca played the first 45 minutes for the Blue Devils and was impressive in net. He made six saves before the half, including several from point-blank range. Krauze played the final 45 minutes and made a pair of saves.
The Blue Devils return to action on Friday at home hosting St. Francis U in a key Northeast Conference match. Central is 4-0 in league play, the Red Flash are 3-1-1. A win by the Blue Devils on Friday night would lock up the #1 seed in the NEC Tournament, to be played Nov. 15 and 17 at the home of the highest seed.
