Men's Soccer Plays to 0-0 Draw at Vermont
The Central Connecticut men's soccer team played Vermont to a 0-0 draw on Wednesday afternoon. The Blue Devils (0-4-1) and Catamounts (3-0-2) were delayed by lightning and the game, still tied at zero, was called after one overtime period due to darkness.
The Blue Devils earned four corner kicks in the first half, but were unable to convert on any of their set pieces. CCSU had three more corner attempts in the second half, but again the Blue Devils were unable to convert.
Vermont totaled six corner kicks, but had five attempts in the second half and the only corner chance during the overtime period.
Sophomore Zach Zurita led CCSU with six shots. Two of his shots were on the goal, but both were stopped by Vermont goalie Conor Leland.
Freshman Conor Qualter had CCSU's other shot on goal, but again Leland made the save.
Splitting time in goal for the Blue Devils were juniors Rafal Krauze and Josef Abele. Each player had a pair of saves in the match. Krauze entered the game at the start of the second half and finished out regulation and overtime. He improves his record to 0-2-1 on the season. Abele started the match and posted a shutout over the first 45 minutes of play.
Vermont finished the game with a 14-12 advantage in shots. The Catamounts also had five shots on goal compared to three for CCSU.
The Blue Devils' next game is scheduled for 7 p.m. on September 18, at the CCSU Soccer Field. The game will be the Blue Devils home opener and will be against new Division I institution UMass-Lowell.
