Men's Soccer Falls to UHart
The Central Connecticut men's soccer team fell to Hartford by a 2-1 score on Wednesday night.
The Central Connecticut men's soccer team fell to Hartford by a score of 2-1 on Wednesday night. The Blue Devils (3-5-1) controlled the pace of play throughout the second period, including a goal by sophomore Freddy Metellus, but the Hawks (7-1-2) found the net late for a game-winning score.
Hartford scored first, with the goal coming in the 33rd minute of the first half, to take a 1-0 lead. Hartford's Jeff Tyron found the net after a run down the right sideline with the help of Anthony Santaga.
The Hawks controlled the game for most of the first half, but CCSU gained the momentum following the break.
Metellus got CCSU on the board early in the second period with his first goal of the season. After taking the ball away from Hartford, Metellus streaked up the middle of the field and launched a shot that found the net.
The game remained tied into the 85th minute when Hartford's Javoni Simms chipped in a goal with the help of Jeff Tryon.
Junior Josef Abele recorded three saves in goal for CCSU. Freshman Conor Qualter and senior Jose Gambo were both strong on defense. Qaulter made an excellent play heading out a shot attempt as Hartford attempted to score off a rebound when Abele was unable to secure the ball following a save late in the second half.
Shots were even at 11-11 for the match. Hartford held the advantage with six shots on goal to CCSU's five. Hartford also had a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Blue Devils return to action on Oct. 11 at the CCSU Soccer Field against LIU Brooklyn.
