Men's Win Third Straight; Green Records Win 250
Blue Devils back in action on Wednesday night at home vs. Hartford
The Central Connecticut men's soccer team won its third straight game, 1-0, on the road at Monmouth on Saturday night. The shutout is the fourth staight for Central and the Blue Devils are 3-0-1 during that span.
The win was the 250th in the career of head coach Shaun Green. Green, in his 29th season as the head coach of CCSU, posts a career mark of 250-226-54 in his time with the Blue Devils.
Central hasn't allowed a goal in its last 370 minutes, dating back to an overtime goal conceded on the road at Navy on September 7. Junior Josef Abele posted his third straight shutout in goal in the victory.
Senior Eddy Bogle quickly scored his third goal of the season in the first half for the only score of the game. It was the third straight game in which Bogle scored a goal and his second game-winner during that time. He also scored the game-winner in a 1-0 win at home over UMass-Lowell last week.
The Blue Devils are now 3-4-1 overall and 3-0-1 in their last four games.
The Blue Devils got on the board quickly in the first half when Bogle took a cross from junior Keir Hannity and headed it past Monmouth goalkeeper Stephen Graziani in the seventh minute to put the visitors on top.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net for the remainder of the night. Central held a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal on the night.
Abele made three saves in goal to record his third victory of the season. He has been in goal for all but 55 minutes of the 370 minute shutout streak for CCSU.
After playing seven of their first eight games away from home the Blue Devils will finish the regular season playing seven of their final 10 games at home. They are 1-0 at home this season.
Central returns to action at home on Wednesday night hosting Hartford beginning at 7 p.m. on the CCSU Soccer Field. Fans can watch the game live and for FREE by visiting www.NECFrontRow.com at gametime.
