Men's Soccer Loses to Navy in Overtime on Saturday
Blue Devils will play next at Vermont on Wednesday Night
The Central Connecticut men's soccer team lost 2-1 in overtime at Navy on Saturday night to fall to 0-4 on the season. The Midshipmen scored with 11 seconds to play in the first overtime to earn their first win of the year (1-1-2).
The Blue Devils will return to action on Wednesday night on the road at Vermont. The game will be the fifth straight away from home to begin the 2013 season. The home opener for CCSU is scheduled one week later on Sept. 18 vs. UMass-Lowell.
The teams played a scoreless first half before Navy broke the tie with the first goal of the game after halftime.
Navy's Alex Evans header scored the game's first goal, beating Central goalkeeper Rafal Krauze in the 58th minute of the match.
Central's Zach Zurita tied the match 1-1 in the game's 63rd minute with his second goal of the season. The sophomore scored on just the second shot on goal of the game for the Blue Devils to even the match.
Neither team could find the net again as the match went to overtime.
The Midshipmen found the back of the net in the final seconds of the first overtime as Thomas Shiba's header beat Krauze for the game-winner. Krauze finished the match with five saves, but falls to 0-2 on the season.
Navy outshot the Blue Devils 23-8, but just 7-4 in shots on goal. They held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Central returns to action on Wednesday night on the road at Vermont.
