Mullen Finishes Third at Wildcat Invitational
Mullen shoots -2, 69, on the second and final day of the tournament
The Central Connecticut men's golf team completed play in the Wildcat Invitational, finishing eighth, hosted by Villanova University on Tuesday. The tournament was played at the White Manor Country Club (par 71) in Malvern, PA, and is being hosted by Villanova University.
The Blue Devils improved 13 strokes from round one and fired a second round score of 292. They shot a two day total of 597.
Senior Monte Mullen led the way for the Blue Devils with a day two score of 69, good for two under par. He was -3 at one point in the round before stumbling with three bogeys in a five hole span. He rebounded with an eagle on the 17th hole and par on 18 to finish with the 69.
Mullen finished his two rounds with a score of +1 (143), tied for third place overall. Billy Johns from Lehigh shot -2 in his two rounds to claim medalist honors. Mullen's round of 69 in the second round was the third best round of the day and one of only five rounds in the 60's in the tournament.
Sophomore Matt Hills shot 73, good for two over par, the second best score of the day for the Blue Devils. He had three birdies in his second round and tied for 16th place overall. Junior Connor Murphy shot 74 (+3) and had a pair of birdies in the round. He tied for 32nd place. Sophomore Nick Direda shot 76 (+5) with a pair of birdies and sophomore Bryant Bolden shot a score of 77 (+6).
Binghamton won the tournament with a two round score of 581. They were followed by Delaware, Drexel, Saint Joseph's and Lehigh in the top-five.
