Men's Golf Tied for First at Lafayette
Blue Devils shoot 296 in first round, tied with Dartmouth
The Central Connecticut men's golf team shot a first round score of 296 and is tied for first place with Dartmouth after the first round of the 2015 Coca-Cola Bottling Company of the Lehigh Valley Collegiate Invitational.
Sophomore Matt Hills led the Blue Devils with a score of even par 71 in the first round. Senior Monte Mullen is one shot behind Hills with a round of 72.
Junior Connor Murphy fired an opening round score of 76 (+5), followed by sophomore Nick Direda with a 77 (+6) and sophomore Bryant Bolden with a 78 (+7).
The tournament is being held at Silver Creek Country Club and features two rounds, with the second round coming on Monday, April 6.
Complete individual scoring for the first round was not available on Sunday. Central and Dartmouth are tied for the team lead, each firing a 296 on the first day. St. Peter's (297) is third, Monmouth (298) is fourth and Lehigh (299) rounds out the top five.
Lafayette White (301), Lafayette Maroon (303), Hofstra (307), Siena (307), Rider (308), Bucknell (309), UMass-Lowell (313), Iona (314) and Niagara (322) round out the 13-team field.
Silver Creek Country Club's championship course is a 6,655-yard, par-72 loop that was established in 1934. The course was designed by famed golf course architect Donald Ross. The facility features a practice putting green, a short range practice area and a practice range with yardage markers from 50 to 275 yards.
