Men's Golf Moves to 9th After Second Round at UConn
Mullen fires a 73-70 to sit -1 in 4th place
The Central Connecticut men's golf teamclimbed two spots to ninth place after the second round of the UConn Connecticut Cup which was completed on Tuesday morning. The tournament is being held at Ellington Ridge Country Club. The Blue Devils shot 307 in the first round and then 298 in the second round to sit at 605, just six shots out of the top five. The third round is currently underway.
Senior Monte Mullen followed up a first round score of 73 with a -2 round of 70 in the second round to sit in a tie for fourth place overall. His score of 143 (-1) is just four shots off the lead and he moved up 10 spots after the second round of play.
Sophomore Matt Hills shot 75-78 to sit in a tie for 45th place overall at +9. Freshman Brandon Raine shot 81 in the first round and then improved eight strokes in round two (73) to move into a tie for 55th place. Junior Jack Ayers shot 78-77 and is tied for 60th. Junior Connor Murphy took four strokes off his round one score and shot 82 in the second round, he is in 84th place overall.
The Blue Devils shot a team score of 307-298 to move into ninth place at +29 (605). UConn leads the tournament with a score of 575 (-1), followed by Hartford (579), Bryant and Colgate (586) and St. Peter's (599). The Blue Devils are just six shots out of the top five for the tournament.
