Two Added to 2012-13 Men's Golf Roster
Jack Ayers and Connor Murphy will join the Blue Devils this fall.
The Central Connecticut men's golf team has announced their incoming class for the 2012-13 season. Connor Murphy and Jack Ayers will join the Blue Devil men's golf roster next season as freshman.
Central placed first at the 2012 New England Championships winning the tournament back-to-back seasons. The Blue Devils also finished sixth at the 2012 Northeast Conference Championships.
Connor Murphy - West Barnstable, MA/Bishop Stang
During his time at Bishop Stang High School, Murphy was a Division III State Champion. He was a three-time honoree on the Boston Globe and Boston Herald All-Scholastic teams. Murphy was named Boston Globe Player of the Year as well as a three-time Standard Times Player of the Year.
"I chose CCSU because of its strong academic system as well as their strong athletic system. I have heard so many great things about this school and what success it brings to students and how it sets them up for a bright future."
Head coach Kevin Giancola said of Murphy, "I am very excited about Connor, He can be an explosive player, he is not afraid to shoot low scores and makes a ton of birdies. He is the type of player who could win a collegiate event as a freshman. He should have an immediate impact on our top 5 and help replace the great loss of Kevin Josephson from our program."
Jack Ayers - Old Saybrook, CT/Old Saybrook
Jack Ayers joins Central from nearby Old Saybrook High School in Old Saybrook, CT. "I chose CCSU because of its academic and athletic excellence. I believe that Central is the best place to go to take my game to the next level."
Ayers earned All-State honors his sophomore and junior years. He was named First-Team All-Conference every year he competed at Old Saybrook High School. He was honored as New London Day Area Player of the Year and won the Shoreline Conference Tournament his junior and senior years.
He qualified for the Connecticut State Open with a 75 and placed in the top-five at the tournament. Ayers tied for eighth place at the Connecticut Section Jr. PGA Championship and placed in the top-25 at the World Series of Junior Golf shooting a 75. He was a AJGA Apawamis K12 Medalist with his score of 72.
"Jack is a very experienced tournament player with a very consistent game. He is very determined and has the kind of work ethic and heart that I am looking for both on and off the course. His potential is unlimited and he will provide needed consistency to our program" said Giancola.
