Morgan Wins Blue Devil Invitational
The Central Connecticut men's golf team placed second this weekend at the Blue Devil Invitational. Sophomore Daniel Morgan headlined round two of the tournament with a first place finish.
The Central Connecticut men's golf team came away with a second place finish after two rounds of stroke play at the Blue Devil Invitational golf tournament. The event was held at Wethersfield Country Club in Wethersfield, CT.
Central Connecticut trailed only Laval University in the tournament, shooting a total score of 580. The Blue Devils posted scores of 294 in the first round and 286 in the second. The final score after both rounds was good for a 4 stroke lead over third place NEC rival Sacred Heart University.
Sophomore Daniel Morgan finished first overall in the tournament after three thrilling playoff holes decided the winner. Morgan, who shot a 73 in round one, came out hot on Sunday shooting a 69 working his way to the top of the leaderboard in the tournament's conclusion.
Three of the five Blue Devils landed Top-10 finishes in the individual competition. Senior Kevin Josephson shot a 72 in round one and a 71 in round two totaling a score of 143, good for a fourth place tie. Freshman Monte Mullen finished tied for 10th after shooting a 75 in round one and a 71 in round two totaling a score of 146.
Junior Dan Fanion finished tied for 20th with a final score of 149 to round out the scoring for the Blue Devils. Junior Matthew DeJohn was the fifth Blue Devil finishing with a 155.
Central finished second of 12 teams at the event. Laval University finished first. Sacred Heart, URI, and George Washington capped the top five. Manhattan College finished sixth followed by Holy Cross, Bryant, Hofstra, AIC, Rider, and St. Francis (NY).
Central Connecticut will be back in action at the Adams Cup of Rhode Island Monday September 19th.
