Men's Golf T6th After First Round of NEC's
Dan Fanion is tied for 9th individually.
The Central Connecticut men's golf team is in a sixth place tie after day one of the 2012 Northeast Conference Championships. The Blue Devils shot a 314 in the tournament's opening round which was held on Friday, May 4th.
The Northeast Conference is hosting the three-day, 54-hole championship tournament at LPGA International Golf Course in Daytona Beach, FL. The par 72 course is playing 6,919 yards long.
Mount St. Mary's (297) is the tournament's leader after one round of championship stroke play. Trailing the Mountaineers is second place Fairleigh Dickinson (301) and third place St. Francis (PA) (305). Robert Morris (309) and Sacred Heart (309) are knotted up in fourth place and Central is tied with LIU Brooklyn (314) for sixth. Monmouth (318), Wagner (328), and St. Francis (NY) (345) round out the 10-team field.
Junior Dan Fanion leads the Blue Devils after posting a 75 (+3) in the first round. The junior carded two birdies and made par nine times while marking down an eagle on the 14th hole. Fanion trails the tournament's individual leader, Sacred Heart's Leo Garcia (72), by only three strokes.
Cracking the top-20 individually was freshman Monte Mullen who registered a 77 (+5) on his first 18 of the tournament. The first-year Blue Devil birdied the fifth and eighth holes while making par an impressive 11 times.
Junior William Finnerty broke 80 on Friday shooting a 79 (+7). Finnerty birdied the 14th hole and made par on 10 of 18 holes played.
Sophomore Daniel Morgan (83) is in 41st place and senior Kevin Josephson (87) is tied for 50th.
