Fanion, Josephson All-New England
Central placed two golfers on the All-New England roster.
Junior Dan Fanion and senior Kevin Josephson of the Central Connecticut men's golf team were both named the the NEIGA All-New England First Team. Of the five student-athletes selected to the list, Central was the only school to have two golfers recognized.
Fanion played in all 30 rounds for the Blue Devils in the 2011-12 season. He averaged 75.1 strokes per round and posted a pair of top-ten finishes. His best individual finish came at the New England Championships where he was the tournament's runner-up. Fanion was named team captain for the 2012-13 season.
Head coach Kevin Giancola remarked of the 2012-13 team captain, "Daniel has developed into the leader of this team. He has matured in every area of his life as a student-athlete at CCSU. He has gained the respect of the coaches and players from many of our conference rivals. He has risen as one of the best players in the Northeast Conference winning several player of the week awards and garnering first team All New England Honors this past week. He is a proven player a good student and he will make an outstanding leader and Captain."
Josephson led the Blue Devils in average strokes per round as well as top-ten finishes. The senior finished the year with four top-ten finishes, his best finish coming at the New England Championships where he finished fourth. Josephson averaged 74.8 strokes per round and played in all 30 rounds for Central.
The Blue Devils won their second straight New England Championship back on April 7th. Central edged Hartford by one stroke at the tournament posting a score of 598. Fanion led the Blue Devils placing second individually shooting a 145, just two strokes off of the tournament's individual champion Matt Smith from Hartford.
Also recognized as NEIGA All-New England First team was Hartford's Matt Smith, Rhode Island's Branden Chicorka, and Sacred Heart's Josh Salah.
