Volleyball Downs Sacred Heart, 3-1, on Friday
Central snapped a three-game slide with the win.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team cruised to a 3-1 win over Sacred Heart on Friday night in Northeast Conference action at Detrick Gymnasium. The Blue Devils hit .228 as a team in the match and toppled the first-place Pioneers.
The Blue Devils will next play at Le Moyne on Nov. 3.

KEY MOMENTS
- The Blue Devils opened the match by taking a 7-1 lead. Weronika Poczynek served five straight points in the run. Sacred Heart would recover to draw even at 10-10, but CCSU came back with three straight points to take the lead for good. Poczynek closed the set with a kill.
- Mia Lombardo recorded a kill that gave CCSU a 10-9 lead in the second set, but SHU would score eight straight points. A kill by Victoria Sanabria got Central within, 24-20, but SHU closed the set with a block to tie the match.
- The Blue Devils trailed 7-3 in the third set, but would outscore the Pioneers 8-2 and take a lead after consecutive kills by Sanabria and Isabelle Roufs. Following a sideout, Margaret Nolan served an ace to spark a 7-1 spurt to give Central a 19-13 lead. A kill by Lombardo gave CCSU a 2-1 lead.
- In the fourth set the Pioneers scored the first point, but CCSU would score the next five and go up 5-1 after an ace by Poczynek. SHU could not manage to get closer than four points in the frame and Lombardo capped off the win with a kill as CCSU would hit .300 in the set.

72 – The Blue Devils had 72 digs in the match, their fourth-best total of the season.

- The teams have split the last four matchups, with each side winning on its homecourt.
- Poczynek posted her third straight double-double of the weekend with 13 kills and 17 digs.
- Milani added a double-double with 10 kills and 22 digs.
- Isabella Bratzke finished with six blocks and 12 digs.
- Madison Massaro-Cook had 26 assists.
- Margaret Nolan had a team-high three aces.
