
Volleyball Falls to Marist in Five Sets on Friday
Central rallied to force a fifth set before Marist closed out the match.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team fell to Marist in five sets on Friday in a match at American University. The Blue Devils rallied from a two-set deficit to force a fifth set before succumbing.
The Blue Devils will return to action on Saturday with matches against American and UMES.

KEY MOMENTS
- Marist used a run of six unanswered points to take a 10-3 lead in the opening set. The Blue Devils would get within, 12-9, but that was as close as it got before the Red Foxes scored the final four points of the frame.
- In the second set CCSU fell behind 6-1 before scoring three straight points, capped off by an ace from Lauren Milani to make it 7-5. Marist would manage to not give up the lead and won the set, 25-19.
- Central raced out to a 6-1 lead in the third set with a block by Kaylin Hadley and Mia Lombardo ending a run of six straight points. Marist would manage to draw even at 9-9, but a kill by Isabella Bratzke put CCSU ahead and the Blue Devils did not surrender the lead. A kill by Weronika Poczynek would end the set and force a fourth set.
- Marist led by 9-6 in the early going of the fourth set, but CCSU would rally back to take a 12-10 lead. Poczynek would have two kills in the surge and Lombardo and Hadley teamed up for a block to cap the run. The Red Foxes regained a 16-14 lead but CCSU responded with four straight points and a kill by Isabelle Roufs made it 18-16. Marist would tie the set at 24-24, but a kill by Poczynek and another block from Hadley and Lombardo would send the match to the fifth set.
- A kill by Roufs would break a 5-5 tie in the fifth set and spark a surge of four straight points, capped by a kill from Poczynek to make it 9-5. CCSU would lead, 10-7, before Marist would close out the match with eight straight points.

NOTES
- CCSU had a five-game win streak in the series snapped. The teams were meeting for the first time since September 7, 2007.
- Poczynek had 12 kills and 14 digs to post her first double-double of the season.
- Larissa Hiemer had 35 assists and seven digs.
- Lombardo and Hadley finished with nine and eight block assists, respectively.
- Bratzke had a team-high 14 kills, while Roufs added 10 kills and five total blocks.
