Volleyball Has Rally Fall Short at Manhattan on Wednesday
The Blue Devils nearly forced a fifth set after falling behind, 2-0, before the Jaspers prevailed.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team was unable to comeback against Manhattan and lost, 3-1, on Wednesday night in Riverdale, NY. After dropping the first two sets, CCSU won the third set and was one point away from forcing a fifth set before falling.
The Blue Devils are off until opening Northeast Conference play at LIU on September 22.

KEY MOMENTS
- The Blue Devils would open the match with kills by Weronika Poczynek, Lauren Milani and Kaylin Hadley to build a 3-0 lead. CCSU would lead by four points before the Jaspers rallied to seven straight points and take a 9-6 advantage. Manhattan would close the set by outscoring Central, 13-2, and take an early edge in the match.
- The Jaspers continued the momentum in the second set, scoring the first five points and would lead, 10-4, before forcing a CCSU timeout. The Blue Devils would charge back and following a block by Hadley and Mia Lombardo they would score seven straight points to get within, 19-18. Central would not be able to even the score and Manhattan would hold on to take the set.
- In the third set Central trailed, 23-20, before a kill by Kylee Baranski sparked a closing run of five straight points. Baranski would serve the final four points, while Poczynek had consecutive kills to extend the match.
- Manhattan would lead, 5-2, in the early going of the fourth set, and that matched the largest lead by either side in the set. A block by Hadley and Lombardo would tie the set at 19-19, but the Jaspers would go ahead on the next point and would have match point at 24-22. A kill by Isabelle Roufs, followed by back-to-back errors by Manahattan teed up set point for Central. Following a timeout, the Jaspers would rattle off three straight points to win the match.

NOTES
- The Blue Devils had a four-match win streak in the series snapped.
- Weronika Poczynek posted her third double-double of the season, and second straight, with 15 kills and 16 digs. She would hit .800 and total eight kills and five digs in the third set alone.
- Isabella Bratzke finished with 11 kills and seven digs, along with two blocks.
- Hadley and Lombardo led the CCSU defense with five and four blocks, respectively.
- Baranski started her first career match and finished with 36 assists, four digs, three blocks and two kills.
