Volleyball Stopped by American and UMES on Saturday
The Blue Devils fell in three sets to American and in four sets to UMES.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team fell against American and UMES in a pair of matches on Saturday in Washington, DC. The Blue Devils fell to American in straight sets before losing in four sets against UMES.
The Blue Devils travel to Providence, RI, on Friday and will face Bryant at 7:00 p.m.

KEY MOMENTS
- A kill by Weronika Poczynek would give CCSU a 7-6 edge in the opening set, but American would rattle off five straight points to take an 11-7 lead. AU would go on to close the set with a 9-1 spurt to take the lead in the match.
- In the second set, CCSU would open with the serve and led in the early going. A kill by Lauren Milani would make it 6-6, but AU scored three straight points to take a lead. The Eagles would score the final three points of the set to go ahead 2-0 in the match.
- American did not trail in the final set, scoring the first four points before CCSU took advantage of miscues to close within, 4-3. The Blue Devils would stay within striking distance until American went ahead 21-13 to force a timeout. The Eagles closed the match out with a service ace.

KEY MOMENTS
- CCSU would come out strong, building a 5-1 lead after a block by Isabelle Roufs and Isabella Bratzke. Central would lead 10-6 before UMES scored five straight to take the lead and force a timeout. CCSU trailed by as much as 20-17, but would claw back and tied the set at 22-all following an ace by Madison Massaro-Cook. UMES would initially fight off two set points until a kill by Roufs and an error gave CCSU the set.
- In the second set, UMES scored seven straight points to go ahead 9-3 in the early going. A block by Roufs and Larissa Hiemer would cut the deficit to 10-7, but CCSU would not be able to get any closer as UMES would go on to win the frame.
- CCSU was within 15-14 following an ace by Milani and a kill by Bratzke in the third set. UMES would take advantage of an error to maintain its lead and went on to go ahead, 2-1 in the match.
- Neither team led by more than three points in the early-going of the fourth set and CCSU held a 11-8 lead following a Milani ace. After UMES scored four straight points, the Blue Devils would eventually have its last lead of the match at 17-15 following an ace by Bratzke. UMES responded with five straight points and then closed out match following a CCSU error.

10 – CCSU had a season-high 10 service aces against UMES.
NOTES
- Milani led CCSU with 17 kills in the two matches, including a team-high eight against American. She added 12 digs on the day and five aces, including four against UMES.
- Poczynek had eight kills and seven digs against American, to go along with five kills and eight digs against UMES. She is averaging a team-best 2.38 kills per set on the year.
- Bratzke had a team-high 13 kills against UMES, to go with two aces and four digs.
- Roufs had 11 kills against UMES and four total blocks.
- Hiemer had 40 assists against UMES and 15 more against American. She is averaging 7.63 assists/set on the season.
