Volleyball Falls to FDU in a Five-Set Heartbreaker
CCSU would force a decisive frame before the Knights rallied back to clinch the victory.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team dropped a five-set heartbreaker to FDU on Saturday in Northeast Conference action at Detrick Gymnasium. The Blue Devils forced a fifth set and led by five points in the final frame before the Knights rallied with the final five points of the match.
The Blue Devils host Sacred Heart on Friday evening.

KEY MOMENTS
- The Blue Devils took a 1-0 lead with a first set win. The Knights led midway through the frame before a four point run by CCSU put them ahead 13-10 after a kill by Weronika Poczynek. CCSU would rally late with a kill by Mia Lombardo to set up match point before a kill by Isabelle Roufs after a sideout finished the set.
- The Knights would bounce back, taking the next two frames. In the second set, FDU would score four of the final five points to even the match. In the third set, FDU built a 6-1 lead and would not trail. A kill by Roufs would make it 9-4, but that was as close as CCSU would get. The Knights took the set, scoring the final five points.
- Central responded in the fourth set and went ahead 16-12 following an error to force an FDU timeout. The Blue Devils rattle off an 8-2 run before closing the set on a kill by Victoria Sanabria.
- In the fifth set, CCSU forced a timeout by FDU after an ace by Roufs made it 8-4. Central would push the lead to 12-7 after consecutive kills by Sanabria. The Knights would would rally with three straight points before a CCSU timeout. After a point broke the run, FDU would score the final five points of the match to win.

NOTES
- FDU has won the last five meetings, while the teams are 5-5 in the last 10 matchups.
- Poczynek posted her second double-double of the weekend with 15 kills and 11 digs.
- Sanabria had 13 kills to go with four digs and a block.
- Kylee Baranski had 26 assists.
- Lauren Milani had 20 digs.
